There are a lot of ways to produce a schedule for your company. Of course there are typical systems that may cost less but cause your organization to spend more man hours than are necessary. Then there are systems that will help to save you money and time by doing a large portion of the work for you. I recently read an article titled SaaS Scheduling System that offered quite a bit of insight into the reality that many companies can afford scheduling software. The web-site also linked to the website production-scheduling-software-portal.com which has many links to exciting opportunities for purchasing scheduling software.
SaaS systems are making it much easier to afford software systems that were previously out of reach to some manufactures. While using Excel spreadsheets and dry erase boards (scheduling systems of the past) may be less expensive the great opportunity of utilizing SaaS allows companies to pay for a system on a monthly basis as rather than paying a large amount of money to purchase a license and run a program. They offer the opportunity to for companies who may be struggling to modify and organize their scheduling processes.
Of course there are some drawbacks to Software as a service. The largest drawback is that the manufacture is purchasing a system that is used by multiple other companies. This is done so that the opportunities to modify and fine tune the system are as minimal as possible. There are some SaaS systems that do allow for integration with other software systems.
